1. Why New Brunswick?
New Brunswick is a province of Canada lying just to the North East of Maine in New England and is the largest Maritime province. Culturally, the province's roots are heavily influenced from Britain and France and New Brunswick is the only official bilingual province. Friendly people, a rich and diverse lifestyle and many opportunities for work, investment and leisure can provide a fantastic back drop to your new life. Property prices are far cheaper than the UK enabling many families to buy their dream home. The Capital, Fredericton and other major cities, Moncton and Saint John are all within easy driving distance of the US border. Largely forested, New Brunswick also offers a diverse landscape including sandy beaches and pastoral farming regions.
2. Do I Need a visa to Visit New Brunswick?
No. As a UK citizen you are able to visit New Brunswick for up to six months; this may be extended but only from within Canada.
3. Can I just live and work in New Brunswick without a visa?
No, you will need the legal right to live, work and receive benefits in New Brunswick. Usually this will be via a work permit or full residency.
4. How do I get a work permit or residency status?
You can obtain full residency through a number of different routes. Applications and details can be found at: Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
If you get a validated job offer, a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) can be issued, this in turn enables the prospective employee to apply for a Temporary Work Permit (either from CHC or directly at a Canadian Port of Entry). Recent changes to immigration policy means that applicants who have applied on or after 27th February 2008 and have at least one year's experience of certain skills can look at timelines for Full Residency Visas in around 6-8 months. All applicants are still subject to CIC points criteria, medicals and police checks. Applicants without the skills and experience laid down by CIC will be rejected unless they have a validated job offer or offer of employment (or are either studying or living legally as a temporary foreign worker in Canada). A list of skills and experience required for a skilled worker application can be found on the CIC website.
New Brunswick also has a provincial Business stream.
5. Can I fast Track my emigration process?
Usually the best way to expedite your emigration process is to receive a job offer and in most cases a Labour Market opinion from Service Canada is required. A popular way to expedite your application is to become nominated by your chosen province. The New Brunswick PNP have different application routes; if nominated, your process will normally take under a year. New Brunswick also offer a business stream under the PNP.
