Lifestyle - Driving

Moving to a new country can be stressful; once you land there is a myriad things to consider. We hope you find the following information both useful and time saving.

Driving in New Brunswick

Driving in Canada is on the Right. A new immigrant to New Brunswick can drive on their UK licence for up to 90 Days. Most vehicles will be automatic. Generally importing cars from the UK which are less than 15 years old is impractical and we would advise against, as conversion would prohibit this as a practical option.

A New Brunswick Licence is required within 10 days of residing in New Brunswick on a permanent basis. A valid UK licence (within 2 years of expiry) can be exchanged at a Service New Brunswick Centre. This licence must be carried with you when driving, along with your vehicle registration and insurance, at all times.

New Brunswick operates a graduated learner driver system for brand new drivers 16 and older; a graduation licence lasts for 2 years. 18 is the minimum age for a full licence.

All registered vehicles must undergo a yearly safety inspection at an official inspection station. A sticker which goes on your windscreen is issued when your vehicle passes this inspection and is stamped to the end of that month for the following year.

Vehicle registration proves ownership of a vehicle and has to be renewed each year; generally the fee is dependent on the weight of a vehicle.

All cars in New Brunswick will have automatic dimmed headlights at all times.
